Why is Health & Safety in the workplace so important?

Both are different ways of describing Health and Safety in the workplace or health related issues and processes around your occupational (work) environment. We base our safety management systems to meet the requirements of the Australian Standard AS/NZS 4801:2001 Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. This enables your business to meet your compliance obligations to the various Work Health and Safety Legislation (Act, Regulations and Codes of Practice). An effective Occupational (Workplace) Health and Safety Management System generally comprises of a Safety Management Plan, Safety Policies specific to your workplaces safety requirements, the procedures, processes and forms required to capture vital information to maintain your Occupational (Work) Health and Safety Management System. Some business operations may also require Site Safety Management Plans and Safe Work Method Statements as well. A key component of your Workplace Safety Management System is your Risk Assessment policy and process. We will guide you on the implementation of this policy. This process will assist in identifying the risks associated with the work practices within your business, these, you are required to address under the legislation’s obligations placed on a Person conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU) This process could identify one or more of the following requirements for you and your business to address, signs, safety signage, training, Personal Protective Equipment, Standard Operating Procedures, Safe Work Method Statements, Monitoring Processes, Emergency Evacuation drills and training. The implementation of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System is a critical aspect but what is more critical is the effective and efficient ongoing regular monitoring, evaluation and constant improvement process. From this process, your business will be able to evaluate your Safety Performance. The Safety Performance Summary will assist you to focus on areas for continual improvement; this is a requirement of the Australian Standard AS 4801:2001 and the Work Health and Safety Act and Regulations 2011. Why AS4801:2001 Occupational Health and Safety Management System accreditation? Below is the legislative obligation placed on a PCBU (persons conducting business or undertaking).  A PCBU must so far as is reasonably practicable ensure; the health and safety of— (a) workers engaged, or caused to be engaged by the person; and (b) workers whose activities in carrying out work are influenced or directed by the person; while the workers are at work in the business or undertaking (2) A person conducting a business or undertaking must ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that the health and safety of other persons is not put at risk from work carried out as part of the conduct of the business or undertaking. For many of your suppliers, your business’s accreditation by an approved 3rd party certification entity verifies that you have a compliant Occupational (Work) Health and Safety Management System reducing their exposure to mitigation.
